Mary, Did You Know?

MARY, DID YOU KNOW?

When you held His tiny head
against your shoulder,
Did you know
it would someday
be crowned with thorns?

When you bathed your son
and toweled His baby-soft skin,
Did you know
that His flesh would someday
be torn from a savage scourging?

When you tickled His little feet
and made Him giggle,
Did you know those feet would someday
falter three times under the weight of His Cross?

When you held His tiny hands in yours
as He took His first steps,
Did you know
those hands would someday
be nailed to a cross?

When you taught Him to pray
to His Father in heaven,
Did you know
that He would cry out to Him in agony?

When you held His tiny Sacred Heart
against yours and felt its little beating,
Did you know
that a sword would pierce His heart?

When you said "yes" to our Lord,

Did you know?

Did you know that a sword
would pierce your heart, too?
