A CROWN
by John C. Nash

It’s been written long, long ago.
There lived a just man
Who taught with great wisdom,
And loved all mankind.

His stories are centuries old,
Loved by many more than gold.
Into the heart of peasant and king,
His spoken word enlightened to ring.

Christ born and heaven brought,
Three wise men successfully sought.
He lived to perform miraculous events.
His followers grew and enemies could relent.

Slaves of men no crown on thee,
Stretched on a cross transversely.
Christ crucified not in vain,
Calvary’s true forever His name.

His conviction condemned to die,
Mocked, scorned, scourged and crucified;
Nailed on the cross for His last breath,
His crown made of thorns with His death.
